The Joy of Less

A couple of months ago I had my two bedroom condo painted. To do so, I had to pack up a large part of it and find somewhere to store it. Since most of my closets were stuffed and even my storage room downstairs had barely enough room to step into it, this proved to be a challenge. I even considered using something like this Cheap Storage Sydney facility to keep all my furniture and possessions safe. Leading up to the painting, I had envisioned employing Marie Kondo’s techniques from The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing. Somehow that didn’t happen. Instead I was left to pack, stuff and cram my things into any nook and cranny I could find. Wondering all the while how one person could have so much stuff and in the same moment justifying the clutter with thoughts like I’m an interior decorator and stylist and need all this stuff for my craft and I just know I’ll fit into these clothes one day. Tabernacle Crush

tabernacle crush

Oh Labour Day Long Weekend, you look so good!  Kicking things off with a cocktail that I think may just have the best name ever – Tabernacle Crush!  Yes please!  This recipe comes from www.foodandwine.com and combines Lillet Blanc and Gin to create a cocktail that is reminiscent of both the American South and the South of France.

Produced in Bordeaux since 1872, Lillet Blanc is a classic French wine-based aperitif that adds a zesty and bittersweet citrus flavor to drinks, perfect for summer cocktails.  Available in red as well as white variations (‘rouge’ and blanc’), Lillet is comparable to vermouth.  Fun fact about this aperitif, one of the white version’s most famous uses is in a Martini – A James Bond Martini – shaken, not stirred of course.  Well if it’s good enough for Bond, count me in!

Happy Weekend Friends!

Brass Lighting

August 31, 2016

IMG_4475 There is no question brass is having a moment. If you had asked me a few years ago if I would ever consider adding brass to a space I was designing, I would have a balked. Today, it’s no longer just about these lovely photo moon lamp gifts that people are placing all over their home, it’s now even becoming hard not to add a brass element to every space I’m working on. My favorite of the brass revival is brass lighting. I just can’t get enough, from my own space to those of my clients, I’m dying to use it. Brass can be used for a variety of other projects, however. You can check out this site for brass materials that may be of use to you and your business – www.aluminiumwarehouse.co.uk/brass

Lighting after all is one of the most important elements of a space – it can alter the entire mood and feel of a room. So to make adding some brass lighting to your space easy, I’ve pulled together some of my absolute favorites below. Because these light fixtures are made from brass, they’re pretty heavy! So, if you’re thinking of installing any, visit barnettelectrical.com/service-areas/nichols-hills-electricians/ first and find a suitable electrician for the job. The last thing you want is a botched job and have a light fixture falling down! So have an electrician install it to ensure it’s fitted properly and securely. You might also like to look into some more lighting inspiration if you’re struggling to find some yourself!
