Client Reveal: Renfrew Project

In my experience, it’s not often when working with clients that the husband is the one with the more defined design esthetic, but that was just the case in our Renfrew project.  My client’s keen eye, appreciation for good design and practical sensibility – theirs is a home to two little people, with a third on the way and an adorable, albeit energetic dachshund – laid the foundation for the design.

Every project has a spring board, a source of inspiration from which everything else stems.  In this case it was the vibrant green leather chairs my client loved.  Classic in design, the hammered wrought iron in matte black gives them a modern twist. But if I’m being honest, they were a bit outside my comfort zone. In my recent Design Crush post, I shared that while I love jewel tones, I tend to gravitate towards muted and worn variations.  The vibrancy of these chairs challenged me; but seeing how this space turned out, I’m so grateful for the challenge.

Rather than resist the vibrancy, I decided to embrace it and let the chairs be the star of the space. Pairing them with a neutral palette of taupe, cream, grey, slate and black.  To keep them from feeling like a spotlight in the space, I brought in texture and pattern in the drapery, rug and textiles.

There’s a lot I love about this space, the graphic linen drapery, the hearty indoor/outdoor rug, and the hand etched coffee table, but the voluminous ottomans that offer generous flexibility might just be my favourite.

Overall I think this space is comfortable minimalism at it’s best, and so on point for St. Patrick’s Day 🙂
