I have always loved the idea of an Old Fashioned, there is something understatedly sophisticated about it. And I especially admire women who drink them! They are far to strong a drink for me, so I was thrilled to come across this take on the Old Fashioned by The Little Epicurean. A fruitier, mellower drink, perfect for the holidays and entertaining!
The process may seem involved, but it’s worth the work and the Simple Syrup and Brandied Cranberries will keep for weeks.
Well alas, winter is finally here in Calgary. Our fair city is blanketed in snow and truth be told, I think it’s just beautiful! There is nothing like the first snowfall! Unless you have to be on the roads, in which case it can be frustrating, please be safe.

To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee’s Pulitzer prize-winning masterpiece of honor and injustice in the deep south is one of my all time favourite books. The heart breaking and inspiring journey of Atticus Finch has stayed with me since I first read it over 20 years ago. If you haven’t read it, please do, you’ll be glad you did!
