Setting the Table

March 24, 2015

I love entertaining friends and family.  There is nothing that makes my soul smile more than coming together for a gorgeous meal, while laughing, catching up and reminiscing.  Truly what life is all about!

Part of my love of entertaining comes from my excitement for creating unique and in this case playful table settings.  After all, the table setting sets the tone for the meal and can often be a great conversation piece.  Since I’m doing a cozy Easter Brunch this year, I thought I would keep the look fun and playful.

The inspiration for this table actually started with the beautiful truffle eggs I found at Chapters Indigo.  From there I had my colour palette – blue, green and yellow.  Part of the splendor of Easter is all the beautiful colours from the pale and subtle to the vibrant.  But it can be a bit overwhelming, so pick an element or two that inspire you and let that be the springboard for the rest of the look.

Once I had my colours in mind, it was simply a matter of shopping around for the perfect accessories.  I just had to have the gorgeous teal blue chargers from Pier1 Imports, so beautiful!  And matching napkins!  I was in heaven!  As with most holidays, it’s important to start shopping early, I left things a little late this year and found that my usual gold mine, HomeSense was already picked through and bare.

Because I like to add a bit of DIY to everything I do, the favours for my guests are these adorable nests filled with the delicious truffle eggs.  I simply spray painted inexpensive nest I found at my local craft store white, let them dry well and filled them up!  I made sure to lay down a little bit of Saran Wrap under the eggs so my guest could actually enjoy them and not worry about consuming paint.

I always try to bring layers and depth to everything I design  For the center piece, that meant multiple bunnies, eggs and flower arrangements.  One of my favorite elements is the birdcage in the unexpected green.  I filled it with beautiful decorative eggs and think the look is perfection.  I can’t wait to share an incredible Champagne Brunch of Stuffed French Toast around this gorgeous table!  Recipe coming soon!
