In my experience, it’s not often when working with clients that the husband is the one with the more defined design esthetic, but that was just the case in our Renfrew project. My client’s keen eye, appreciation for good design and practical sensibility – theirs is a home to two little people, with a third on the way and an adorable, albeit energetic dachshund – laid the foundation for the design.
While I’m not sure I’ll ever tire of a tone on tone, neutral space, I do like to inject colour into the spaces I’m working on from time to time. And when it comes to choosing a colour to add, I invariable end up leaning towards jewel tones. In particular, those that look a little weathered and worn. Like they’ve been around for a while. Nothing adds soul to a space like something with history and these weather jewel tones add a depth and richness that I can’t get enough of. I’ve rounded up some of the spaces and colours I’m most inspired by below.
This weeks Inspired Interiors feature is a beautiful modern farmhouse in East Hampton. Designer Tamara Magel chose a beachy, eclectic, and sophisticated style. Playing to the natural surroundings she relied on textured fabrics and rugs. In the living room, a live edge table adds interest while photos from their friend Scott Rudin bring a dose of drama.
The result is a comfortable, organic space that exudes elegance and ease. My favourite kind of space.
