Today’s client reveal is a bright and cozy space, home to the loveliest couple. Located just north of downtown in Tuxedo Park, it’s a classic inner city Calgary infill. Where the builder’s goal is to maximize living space on a narrow foot print.
A sunken living room helps to create a sense of openness and the illusion of more space. But dated paint and fixtures gave the home a dark and shadowy feel. We brightened things up with nearly white paint, brought in neutral textures and played to the 12′ ceilings with large scaled furniture and art work.
A soft as butter abstract rug was used to bring in colour without being over powering. We pulled the gold from the rug for the pillows and accessories, which brought warmth to the space while honoring the neutral palette.
An alcove made for a queen size bed in the master bedroom created an awkward layout with a king size bed. We explored custom night stands that would be narrow enough to fit in beside the bed, but in the end decided to stick to the existing night stands. Super easy going, my clients had become used to the space between the bed and night stand.
Rather than try to minimize the alcove, we decided to highlight it with wallpaper. We added in gorgeous over sized honey comb mirrors to the adjacent walls to give the space an intentional and cohesive look. Custom ceiling mounted linen drapery plays on the texture of the wallpaper and mirrors perfectly, while maintaining a clean and minimal look.
