Today’s home tour is a house I’ve been working on for the past year. Back orders, delays and waiting to get everything just right – I think we finally did.
With one of the smartest four year olds I’ve met and an adorable new born, this family wanted to create a space that was put together and stylish but not too delicate. As in most open concept homes, this is where the family spends most of their time, so kid friendly and durable were key. Mom Jami has a great eye and as a fan of Joanna Gaines, I new a Modern Farmhouse esthetic was the perfect look for this space.
If you’ve seen my work, you know I love texture. It’s the perfect way to add interest to a space when working with neutrals. In this living room texture abounds – from the pillows and throws to the rug and the kid-perfect coffee table, texture keeps this room from falling flat.
Like texture, I’m a fan of adding something vintage to every space I work on. Vintage and antique pieces add depth and a lived in quality that I just adore. In this space I added vintage rattan baskets and thrifted art to either side of TV. Decorating around televisions is such a challenge, but I think this did the trick nicely. Keeping it haphazard keeps the space feeling casual and comfortable.
To keep the space from getting too country, we added a custom upholstered chair in a modern fabric. The grey works with the tones of the space, but the fabric gives it a modern edge. Likewise the custom drapery panels in a gorgeous grey linen paired with simple back hardware keep them feeling casual and comfortable. In the dining room they offer a nice finishing touch.
