Today’s client reveal is probably one of my favourites to date. I’m so proud of this project, not only because it turned out beautifully, but because it tested me in so many ways – errors, delays and one too many broken mirrors! But my clients, the sweetest family, stuck through it all and I think I’m most grateful for that.
Although we worked on lighting throughout the main floor and improving the function and aesthetic of the family room. The breakfast nook and powder room are the scene stealers.
This area off the kitchen was meant for family meals. And while a table and chairs would have done just fine, the custom banquette is a far more functional and prettier option. It offers significantly more seating while softening the space. With three little ones running around there is no such thing as too much storage, so we added drawers to the banquette to tuck away books, arts and crafts supplies, and toys. I love wood accents in a space, I find they add warmth and help ground a space. Here I encouraged my client to forgo a white table for this beautiful, gently distressed farmhouse table instead. I think it’s the perfect contrast to the white millwork and chairs. To finish off the space, we re-positioned the light box and added a simple fixture that ties in perfectly with the clean, no-fuss aesthetic of the rest of the house.
In my opinion, powder rooms are a place to have some design fun. But fun doesn’t have to mean colour. Here we removed the dated vanity that was original to the house and replaced it with a custom shaker style vanity that ties in with the cabinetry throughout the rest of the main floor. We opted for a 17″ sink to allow for more room for accessories on the quartz counter top.
The whimsical wallpaper inspired by Indian botanicals, makes a confident statement without being loud or abrasive. Perfect for the calm neutral tone of the rest of the home. Polished nickle accessories and the prettiest fluted glass sconce offer just the right amount of sparkle to pull the space together.
