As the days get longer and Spring begins to whisper it’s arrival, it’s hard not to get excited! There’s a lightness and joy that comes with Spring, as nature (and me in many ways) comes back to life. Budding trees, animals coming out of hibernation and the celebration of Easter, just a few of my favourite things when it comes to Spring.
If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I love putting together a tablescape, almost as much as I enjoy the meal itself! When designing this year’s Easter tablescape, I wanted it to be whimsical and fresh, more a celebration of spring and less about bunnies and eggs.
The inspiration for the table came from cherry blossom branches. Nothing says Spring to me like cherry blossoms and even though there’s likely still going to be snow on ground here for Easter, a girl can dream!
And because you can’t celebrate Easter without a little whimsy and candy, I added cotton candy as the the table runner! Full disclosure: I had no idea if this was going to work, it could have turned out flat and very underwhelming. But thankfully my attempt to create a cloud like center to the table – that was edible – worked! I just love the depth it gives the table and ethereal effect it creates. And how chic when added to a glass of Prosecco!
Faux flowers, candles and the most gorgeous cake from Pretty Sweet Bakery here in Calgary complete the theme.
I kept the place settings fairly simple, beautiful cement chargers offer a lovely contrast to the softness of the cotton candy. And simple cream dishes and the prettiest napkins complete each setting. While I will always love creating holiday tables, the spirit behind them is what’s most important. Gathering with family and friends, breaking bread, sharing stories and laughs – that’s the true joy of Easter for me.
However you choose to come together for Easter, I wish you a wonderful day surrounded by love, good food and a pretty napkin or two ;-)
