Spicy Hot Chocolate

January 13, 2017

I’ve been reluctant to let the holidays go this year.  Despite the fact the decorations are down and I’m back in the full swing of things work wise, I just can’t let that feeling go.

Have you noticed how everything slows down during the holidays, days seem to last longer, with all the time in the world?  Why is that?  Maybe because the whole world slows down; unlike any other time of year.  In any case, it’s that feeling that I’ve been trying to hold onto as I head into 2017, so far, a week and half in, I’m doing pretty good.

I believe a key to my success has been continuing to enjoy seasonal drinks like this Spicy Hot Chocolate 😉  It’s my take on a winter classic.

This isn’t just any ol’ hot chocolate recipe, it hot chocolate with a kick.  I start with real dark chocolate, which add a richness to the flavour you just can’t get from the powdered variety.  A pinch or two of cinnamon and chili powder, and you’ve got a drink perfect for those cold winter nights, which we’ve sadly had an abundance of lately.  If you really wanna get crazy, add a shot of Tequila and you’ll almost be able to convince yourself you’re on a beach in Mexico 😉

Heat the milk a saucepan on medium heat to just below the simmering point. Remove the pan from the heat and add chocolate. When the chocolate melts add half the chili pepper and cinnamon.  Pour into a mug, top with whipped cream and remaining chili pepper and cinnamon.
